UK wireline instrumentation provider Robertson Geo has entered into a partnership with US based Vista Clara to exclusively market that latter’s nuclear magnetic resonance logging instruments.
Robertson Geo is known for developing advanced wireline instrumentation for geophysical and petrophysical applications. It has partnered with Vista Clara, which is the first company to develop and introduce small and medium diameter nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) logging tools and techniques for groundwater, environmental and geotechnical investigations.
Since 2009, Vista Clara has released hardware and software advances that have made NMR logging a viable geophysical technique.
Robertson Geo will act as the sole sales and equipment rental agent of Vista Clara’s Javelin borehole logging products for 32 national markets in the Middle East, northern Africa, Asia and central Asia, and southern and eastern Europe.
Robertson Geo will also act as the preferred source for Vista Clara Javelin sales, services and rentals in the UK, Ireland and Scandinavia.
Borehole NMR is a technique that measures fluid volumes and the distribution of those fluids as a function of pore geometry. This in turn enables detailed characterisation of the storage and flow capacity of subsurface formations.
The phenomenon of nuclear magnetic resonance was discovered in the 1940s. It is the ability of atomic nuclei to absorb radio frequency energy of specific frequencies when placed in a strong magnetic field.
Sometimes described as “magnetic resonance imaging for rock”, NMR technology was subsequently developed as a downhole wireline probe for use in the oil and gas industry. Borehole NMR has since found its place in ground investigations for geotechnical and hydrogeological purposes.
